Let the Training Begin!

Today I officially started training for the April Triathlon :)  I went on a great bike ride!  The weather is beautiful today, even though it's a little bit on the cold side.  I had forgotten about windchill factor and had to turn around and come back home to get a scarf and gloves, after that it was a wonderful ride!

I went 6miles in 30min.  The route I pick is a bit hard, it starts down hill.  I did the first 3 miles in just over 10min and the way back took almost double the time because it was back uphill.  But I feel great and it was exciting to be out and about.  We still have had next to no snow this year which is so wierd for us, but I'm enjoying being able to train!

Tomorrow morning I'm going to go swimming!

Swimming, water, swimming

I have officially decided that swimming is my ABSOLUTE favorite kind of work out!  I SOOOOOOO wish I had a pool closer to where I lived, I would seriously swim everyday.  There is something so refreshing about the water, you don't feel exhausted and gross, you feel clean and refreshed after a workout.  Plus, it's a dang good workout!  Talk about every muscle in your body having to work together!

I recently invested in a kick-board and a pull-buoy, new swim suit, new goggles, and a swim cap.  Boy am I official now!  I really want to work on improving my endurance and technique this year.  I'm aiming for a once a week swim (pathetic I know, but when the pool is 40min away).

I was meant to be a fish (maybe dolphin, they sound better) in another life.  I just wish I would have had more opportunity growing up, or a possible high school swim team or something, because I seriously LOVE swimming (have you figured that out from this post yet), but I really need some proper instruction.  My technique sucks!

Well, here's to improvement!

PS. Did I mention, I got to swim with a dolphin in Hawaii this summer?

WWW - What's With the Weather?

Not that I'm complaining at all! But here in Utah we've had some CRAZY weather for winter. It's been about 60 degrees and no snow yet!  It's getting me so excited and pumped, for spring and working out, but yet I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much because I'm afraid winter is going to hit full force and then we'll be stuck inside with snow until June! Hopefully not.  So for now, I'm going to completely enjoy it!

Monday:  We were able to get out and go for a bike ride!  Hubby pulled the boys in the bike trailer, and I lead them along on my bike.  If felt AMAZING!  We went for a quick casual ride.  2.5miles in 20min.  It just felt great to be out again.

Tuesday:  Went swimming at the Rec-Center.  Took the kids to splash around and I swam just under a quarter of a mile.  I have to admit, I'm a swimming NUT.  I wish I was better at it, because it is by far my number 1 choice of a workout.  Only downside: we have to drive 40min to get to the pool :P

Today:  Planning on getting ready to have Jillian kick my butt, & according to my phone it's 57 degrees outside again, so if the temp will hold I'd love to get out on the bike again this afternoon.  I don't mind to cooler temperatures, but I feel terrible just making my boys sit there in the trailer not moving with the wind chill, so I always have to take that into consideration!  I'll let you know how it goes!

Here's to kicking those New Years Resolutions in the bootie!!

New Years

So I am terrible at following through with New Years Resolutions.  I decided if I posted them here in a public place, maybe, just maybe, it would give me a little more motivation to follow through!  Obviously my last workout attempt bit the dust between sickness, the holidays, and general chaos.  I do have quite a few resolutions for this year including, keep a cleaner house, be more organized with my time, keep my family blog updated, etc, but since this is a "work-out" blog I won't bore you with the rest of my life :)

Get in Shape!
  1. Actually follow through with my 4-week training of Jillian combined with pilates (talked about in an earlier post)
  2. Try out P90X this summer (while I'm on summer break from teaching)(the hubby swears by P90X)
  3. Plan what races I want to do this year
  4. Drop at least 15lbs
  5. Get more toned and basically just feel better about my body
Help keep me motivated people!
